Incidents Around the House (2024)

Incidents Around the House is a 2024 horror novel by American author Josh Malerman, author of the bestseller Bird Box. The novel was released on June 25, 2024, by Del Rey. The story is told from the first-person perspective of an eight-year-old girl named Bela, who lives with her parents in the suburbs. A supernatural entity she calls Other Mommy takes up residence in her closet. At first, Other Mommy seems benevolent, but she constantly asks to "enter Bela's heart." As events unfold, her presence becomes increasingly real and dangerous, forcing Bela's family to confront both the supernatural threat and the buried secrets it feeds on.

The novel received critical acclaim, was nominated for the 2024 Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel, and was a finalist for the 2025 Locus Award for Best Horror Novel. Many reviewers call it one of the scariest novels of 2024.
