Donkey (2028)

Overview

"Donkey" is an upcoming feature-length animated film from DreamWorks Animation, a spin-off of the "Shrek" franchise, whose release by Universal Pictures is scheduled for June 30, 2028. The film is directed by Charlie Bean and Matt Flynn, and Eddie Murphy will once again voice his most famous character — the talkative Donkey, whom he has played since the first "Shrek" was released.

The plot will tell Donkey's backstory: audiences will learn about the character's origins and his adventures with his dragon wife and their hybrid children. This will be the first spin-off devoted to Shrek's comedic sidekick, intended to expand the franchise's universe. The project is currently in the announcement stage, so plot details and the full cast are still to be expected.
