Swiss Army Man (2016)

Overview of the film «Swiss Army Man» (2016)

«Swiss Army Man» is a 2016 American surrealist comedy-drama written and directed by the duo Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, known as «Daniels». It is their feature directorial debut. The film combines elements of drama, comedy, fantasy, and adventure, exploring themes of loneliness, friendship, and self-acceptance.

Plot

Hank (Paul Dano), a man stranded on a deserted island who has lost all hope of rescue, decides to take his own life. However, suddenly a corpse of a man named Manny (Daniel Radcliffe) washes ashore. Hank discovers that the corpse has incredible abilities: it can fart with such force that it turns into a kind of jet ski, and also has other «multi-functional» properties, like a real Swiss Army knife. Together they embark on a strange journey through the forest to return Hank to his beloved Sarah (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Along the way, Manny, who gradually «comes to life» through his interaction with Hank, helps him rediscover the joy of life and understand that true happiness lies not in an ideal image, but in accepting oneself and others.
