The Count of Monte Cristo (2024)

The Count of Monte Cristo (2024) is an eight-episode English-language miniseries directed by Bille August, based on the novel of the same name by Alexandre Dumas. The lead role of Edmond Dantès is played by Sam Claflin. The plot follows a young sailor who is arrested on his wedding day on false charges of treason. After fourteen years of imprisonment in the Château d'If, he makes a daring escape, finds treasure, and under the identity of the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo begins an elaborate revenge against the three men who betrayed him. The series is distinguished by deep psychological insight, lavish costumes, and the atmosphere of 19th-century France. Unlike film adaptations, the eight-hour format allows for a detailed exploration of all the novel's plotlines, including those usually omitted. The cast also includes Jeremy Irons (Abbé Faria), Ana Girardot (Mercédès), Mikkel Boe Følsgaard (Fernand Mondego), Blake Ritson (Danglars), and others. Franchise chronology:
