I Have No Home (2019)

"I Have No Home" is a single by the Ukrainian indie band One in a Canoe, released on January 14, 2019. The song was written by Iryna Shvaidak and Ustym Pokhmurskyi, produced by Volodymyr Vlasenko and Yurii Mate. The duration of the composition is 3:50.

Plot and Themes

The song touches on the deep existential theme of the absence of home — not only a physical space but also an inner sense of belonging. The lyrical heroine reflects on her roots, tribe, city, but states: "I have no home." The chorus contrasts the bustling life of "people in concrete honeycombs" with her own restlessness. It is a reflection on the search for identity, loneliness, and one's place in the world.

Musical Style

The composition is performed in the genres of indie, indie rock, experimental rock. Characteristic melancholic sound with acoustic guitars, restrained rhythm, and the penetrating vocals of Iryna Shvaidak.

Music Video

This is the band's first official video in almost a decade-long history. Director Volodymyr Vlasenko created a visual story inspired by personal experiences. Filming took place on Khortytsia and in the Zaporizhzhia City Palace of Children and Youth Creativity. The video features Tymofii Vasyliev (main child role) and Denys Kharlan (image of a Cossack). The video contains hidden symbols and references to other songs of the band, in particular "The Boat."
