Berlin Noir (2026)

Berlin Noir — an upcoming crime thriller from Apple TV+, based on Philip Kerr's series of novels about detective Bernie Gunther. The series is set in 1928 Berlin, where newly promoted to the elite homicide division police officer Bernie Gunther (Jack Lowden) investigates a series of brutal murders, the victims of which are marginalized members of society. Against the backdrop of the dangerous political climate of the Weimar Republic, Gunther delves into a dark world of crime and corruption.

Plot and Premise

The series begins with an adaptation of the novel "Metropolis" — Kerr's last book, which is a prequel and tells the origin story of Bernie Gunther. The young detective faces a seemingly serial killer who preys on the defenseless, while also trying to survive in politically unstable Berlin. The noir atmosphere, complex characters, and historical context promise a deep dive into the era.
