Dark Matter (2024)

«Dark Matter» is an American science fiction series created by Blake Crouch based on his 2016 novel of the same name. The first season premiered on Apple TV+ on May 8, 2024. The series follows Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton), a physicist, professor, and family man who is abducted one evening and transported to an alternate version of his life. In this reality, he has no family, but instead has created something extraordinary—a device that allows travel between parallel worlds. To return to his real family, Jason embarks on a dangerous journey through a labyrinth of realities, where his most terrifying enemy turns out to be himself. The series explores themes of choice, identity, and the consequences of paths not taken.

Plot of the first season: Jason Dessen lives an ordinary life in Chicago with his wife Daniela (Jennifer Connelly) and son Charlie. After being abducted, he finds himself in a reality where his alternate version (Jason2) has achieved success as a scientist but lost his family. Jason tries to return home, while Jason2 takes his place in the original world. With the help of Dr. Amanda Lucas (Alice Braga), Jason explores the "Box"—a device for interdimensional travel—and encounters countless versions of himself. The season ends with a tense confrontation where both Jasons fight for the right to live with Daniela and Charlie.

Second season: In August 2024, the series was renewed for a second season, with a premiere scheduled for August 28, 2026. According to the official description, in the second season, the Dessen family tries to lead a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe, but unimaginable circumstances force them to flee again. Jason's obsession with the "Box" deepens, Daniela's paranoia grows, and Amanda and Ryan team up in a desperate attempt to find a way home. Meanwhile, Leighton relentlessly pursues his grand goal—creating a perfect world.
