The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair (2018)

"The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair" is a 2018 American drama miniseries based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Swiss author Joël Dicker. The series consists of 10 episodes and combines elements of crime drama, mystery, and thriller.

Plot

Young and successful writer Marcus Goldman (Ben Schnetzer) is experiencing a creative crisis after the resounding success of his first novel. In search of inspiration, he turns to his mentor and friend — the famous author Harry Quebert (Patrick Dempsey), who lives as a recluse in the small town of Somerset, New Hampshire. Soon, the body of 15-year-old Nola Kellergan (Kristine Froseth), who disappeared 33 years ago, is found on Quebert's property. Harry becomes the prime suspect in the murder, and Marcus, convinced of his innocence, begins his own investigation. Gradually, dark secrets of the past, complex relationships between the characters, and a shocking truth that turns everything upside down are revealed.

Main Themes

The series explores the nature of creativity, the boundaries of morality, obsession, love, and betrayal. It skillfully balances between two timelines — 1975, when the key events took place, and 2008, when the investigation is conducted.
